Name: Lara ThomasonHeading to the north of mainland Shetland, this tour will take in some of the island’s most spectacular coastline.
We will visit Eshaness, an area home to a volcanic landscape dating back 400 million years with high cliffs, sea stacks, caves, bore holes and holms teeming with seabirds.
Taking the longer tour we can walk to the “holes of Scrada”, where the unforgiving stormy sea has smashed a hole through the landscape.
On this tour we will also pass by fishing villages, crofts (small farms) and see Shetland ponies, all while hearing all about Shetland’s distinctive heritage and culture.
We’ll also stop by a café for local home bakes, and a museum (museum TBC).
After this we’ll head back to Shetland’s main town of Lerwick, where we will spend a short time visiting the picturesque area of south Commercial street and the “Lodberries”. These buildings date back to the 17th century and have their foundations built in the sea.
Short tour consists of easy walking over short distances with an optional 10 minute cliff walk.
Longer tour consists of a walk easy/moderate of about one hour.
